Sunday again….that means a Craft or Bust Update. I am going to attempt to keep this post short and sweet.

  • I managed to do several more repeats of the pattern on the Pine Forest Baby Blanket but I discovered that those lace knitting muscles were still in need of some recuperation from Ravelympics.  Must need more red wine and massages!
  • My big news is that I finally tried spinning on a spindle.  You can scroll down a bit on this page to see the post & pics or just click here. I am so very grateful and so frillin happy too!
  • Joined in the ColorBomb Spin-a-long on Ravelry(under COLORBOMBers group on Rav).
  • Took my first batch of photographs of some polymer clay pens for my Artfire shop….but that was as far as I made it on that project.  I am proceeding very slowly on the Artfire shop but I know it will happen when I am fully ready to make it happen.
  • I also ordered greeting cards with some of my art on them.  I wanted to see the quality of the cards from Fine Art America, the on-line company I am using for prints.  I am very happy with the quality.

I was also having some major withdrawals from the ending of Ravelympics.  I found I really missed it in a way I had not expected.  The Spin-a-long helps though.

I want to express my gratitude for Craft or Bust. EXTRA BIG THANKS to Silver for organizing all of us and also thank you to everyone participating. I am finding great inspiration being part of this group.  I am expanding my horizons in ways that I had not expected.  Knowing that the updates happen on Sunday has enabled me to give myself a nice little kick in the @ss when I need it! I love seeing what everyone else is doing or, as is the case some weeks, not doing. The fact there is no real pressure, other than self-imposed, is truly freeing.  Time for those massages, red wine and a good book!

  • Ravelympics is drawing to a close(less than an hour).  I have been pushing myself to finish the Pine Forest baby blanket that I have been working on for the eventgiantslalomghan. Most of my time this week has gone into trying completing this piece.  The time has come to put down my needles and officially call my games over.  I still hold my head high as I gave it a great effort to get done before the deadline but alas, it is still a work-in-progress.  I am confident I will finish this piece in the next few days.
  • I have had a blast being part of Velma’s (my sis-in-law)   Ravelympics Team COLORBOMBers.  Her main theme for our games was to “Have fun!” She makes beautiful, textural and colorful hand-spun art yarns.  Check out her Blog to see some pics from her projects(scroll down a bit on her main page).  Check out her Etsy shop to see the goodies she has for sale.
  • I am happy to say that my Mom loved the lace scarf that I made her 🙂
  • I want to pass along a special tip regarding that awesome chocolate cake recipe that I posted last week.  I froze several pieces(to prevent eating the entire cake in a few days) and thawed them in the refrigerator overnight.  It is still just as yummy!

That’s all for now as my hands are ready for some down time……I have put the needles away and am ready for some R & R.  What a fun experience this has been!!  Thank you!

I must be honest and say that I did more meditating than crafting this week. Lots and lots of meditation actually, which is a good thing.

  • Here is a link to my on-line gallery of recently uploaded sunsets along with a few older favorites.  These are the pictures I have been sorting through for the last few weeks.  I feel like I am at the eye Doctor’s office with the phrase “Better like this? Or better like this?” going over and over in my mind. There can be such subtle differences between two shots.  If you like them, please let me know 🙂
  • Read more about lace knitting and am thinking I might be developing a mild addiction love for it.
  • On the Ravelympics front I am working on a Pine Forest Baby Blanket(Ravelry link), which is another lace piece.  For those not on Ravelry I will post a picture on my blog when it is finished.
  • I was awarded to medals in Ravelympics so far.  You can see them here.
  • I made the best Gluten-free flour chocolate cake I have ever tasted in my life!  Yum! Yum!  I tried to follow it up with a GF flour sugar cookie cake but that recipe got tossed after tasting the finished cake.  It wasn’t a bad cake but it paled drastically in comparison to the super-moist chocolate cake.

That sums up the productivity for this week.  How was your week?

Ravelympics is well under way and I have now received medals in two events!  GO TEAM COLORBOMBers!!  Woo Hoo!!!

I received this as my first medal.  I completed my first evah lace piece.  I am excited to say that I learned several knew stitches to make this project.  This piece of momentous occasion is destined for a very special recipient so pictures on this blog will have to wait a little bit longer. 🙂

This was my second medal for my speedily ripping out of a project abandoned many, many moons ago.  The yarn has been reclaimed and will be used in another project, possibly before the completion of Ravelympics.

I have been reading The Lacy Knitting of Mary Schiffmann by Nancy Nehring.  Well, I write that I am reading it, but it is full of patterns.  I am familiarizing myself with reading charts and patterns.

In short, my world is full of fiber arts through the end of Ravelympics.  So be prepared for more fiber related posts for the next two weeks.  For those not part of Ravelry, I will be including some pics for you too in the upcoming posts.  Keep an eye out.

As midnight is fast approaching I will make this a short but sweet post about Ravelympics and Craft or Bust update.

  • I crossed my first finish line in the Ravelympics in the Lace Luge event.  More details and pics later….
  • Still working on TwitKAL Traveling Woman but this deadline might be missed because of participating in Ravelympics.
  • Still sorting through photographs, yes it can take me this long to narrow them down sometimes.
  • Completed a pen line drawing for my Sweetie.

More to come….but for now I must get some rest for the games tomorrow!

Not having television available, unless it is on-line, I will probably miss most of the Olympics this year.  Which makes me a little sad but perhaps I will be able to find some of it on-line.  So being a person that tries her best not to let things get me down, or at least not keep me down, how will I fill the time during the Olympic games? Enter my favorite on-line fiber community….Ravelry.  They  are hosting the Ravelympics 2010. My fearless sister-in-law, the fabulous Velma of ColorBomb Creations, started her very own TeamCOLORBOMBers.  I was eager to jump on with both feet even though I really only had a vague idea of what I was doing at the time.  I am a Rookie in this new found land of the Ravelympian. I long to wear the laurel upon my lovely locks and have the gold medal hung around my neck.  Realistically my honors here will probably only be in technicolor visions in my head as I hear the crowds cheer…..it will be larger than life I am sure, a moment I will treasure and hold dear throughout my life. Okay, bringing my feet back to the ground for a moment…let me “borrow” from our TeamCOLORBOMBers homepage to explain a little more about Ravelympics.

“Ravelympics is the continuation of the Knitting Olympics, started by Yarn Harlot for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. The idea was to cast on a project during the Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Olympics and finish before the Olympic flame went out. Each participant set a challenging personal goal to complete during the Olympics.

Ravelympics 2010 is bigger, better, bolder – and more complex. Now participants can join multiple teams, set multiple knit/crochet/weave goals for themselves, compete for prizes…”

So I have my first project planned for the opening ceremonies tomorrow evening.  I have a few more projects I am hoping to undertake during this time and really challenge myself like a true Ravelympian.  Work to achieve my best.  Reach for the stars….Off to make more preparations for the games.
